Laboratory & Diagnostics

Order tests at the consultation, receive results at the consultation.

Laboratory tests ordered on paper and returned on a slip of paper create delays and the real possibility of results being lost or attributed to the wrong patient. Health360 connects the consultation to the laboratory digitally: the clinician orders tests from within the encounter, the lab receives the request electronically, the sample is collected and tracked by barcode or unique test number, results are entered against the original request with reference-range flags, and the completed results appear in the requesting clinician’s queue without the patient needing to carry a piece of paper between rooms.

Order tests from within the consultation

The clinician opens the lab-order panel in the consultation screen and selects the tests required from the facility’s test menu. Multiple tests can be grouped on one request. The order is created immediately and appears in the lab queue without any paper requisition leaving the consulting room, reducing transcription errors and the risk of a request being lost in transit.

2

Track samples from collection to analysis

When a sample is collected, the lab technician marks it as collected against the request and records the sample type and collection time. If samples are batched before analysis, the system tracks the batch status so reception can give patients an accurate estimate of when results will be ready. The patient’s record shows the current status of every outstanding test.

3

Enter results with reference ranges and flags

The lab technician enters results against each test parameter in the original order. Reference ranges for each parameter are configured in the test setup, so the system automatically flags values that fall outside the normal range as high or low. The clinician sees the flag before reading the number, drawing attention to the abnormal value immediately.

4

Push results back to the requesting clinician

When results are verified and released by the lab, they appear in the requesting clinician’s pending-results queue and are attached to the originating consultation. The clinician does not need to check on the lab manually or wait for a runner; the results find them. If the patient has already left, the clinician can contact them on the basis of the result.

5

Review cumulative results for a patient

A patient’s full laboratory history is accessible from their profile. Results are displayed in a table grouped by test type, with the most recent value alongside previous values so trends are visible without pulling multiple visit records. A rising creatinine or falling haemoglobin across three visits is apparent immediately.

6

Manage the facility test menu

Administrators configure the list of tests the facility offers, their names and codes, sample types, turnaround times, and pricing. The test menu feeds the ordering screen for clinicians, the results-entry screen for the lab, and the billing module for service charges — so a change to the test list propagates across the system without updating multiple places.

7

Print formatted result reports for the patient

When results are complete, the lab can print a formatted result report to give to the patient or to attach to a referral. The report includes the facility’s header, the patient’s ID and name, the test date, all result values with reference ranges, flags, and the name of the authorising lab technician.
